An event on Becoming an Angel Investor is being held at the prestigious Saïd Business School in Oxford on 21st May 2025 from 2pm to 5pm. The event is designed to provide those considering angel investing with an opportunity to understand more about investing in early-stage businesses and how to build a diverse portfolio.
Hosted by Oxford Innovation Finance, which operates one of the UK’s largest and most active angel networks known as OION, this event is part of the Embracing Diversity series launched by the UK Business Angels Association (UKBAA) and the British Business Bank to broaden access to angel investing.
An impressive mix of experienced angel investors, business founders and industry leaders are confirmed as speakers. Through expert-led discussions and practical insights, attendees will learn about the opportunities and challenges of investing, gain the tools to engage more effectively with diverse founders and contribute to a more representative early-stage investment ecosystem.
Richard Cooper, Managing Director at Oxford Innovation Finance, said: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with UKBAA and the British Business Bank to host this event, which aims to make angel investing more accessible and diverse. Having investors from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences is an asset as they bring different perspectives, skills and insights to a business. Angels are vital in providing much needed funding, but also valuable knowledge and expertise, to enable the country’s most innovative start-ups to bring their pioneering technologies to the world.”
Angel investment is critical to a successful economy. The new products and services that are being developed by start-ups are potentially groundbreaking but they need to attract investment to fulfil their potential and bring their solutions to market. For angels, investing provides the opportunity to give something back, mentor founders, share knowledge and potentially achieve significant financial returns.
For over 30 years, Oxford Innovation Finance has been playing a crucial role in connecting investors with carefully selected businesses through its angel investment community, Oxford Investment Opportunity Network (OION), and its Oxford Innovation EIS Growth Fund. Today, OION is one of the largest and most active angel investment networks in the UK.
